Daniel Nowakowski is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Illinois and co-founder of Nowakowski & Conner. Dan began his career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Student Intern in June 2010. Over his 15-year tenure at the IRS, he served as an Internal Revenue Agent, Lead Internal Revenue Agent, and Management and Program Analyst for the Small Business/Self-Employed Field Examination – Midwest Area, where he oversaw examination staffing and operations across ten states.

During his time at the IRS, Dan led complex civil audits, conducted high-level income reconstruction analyses, and specialized in identifying unreported income, hidden assets, and financial fraud involving both individual and business taxpayers. He also led investigations into high-risk tax return preparers, developed evidence for enforcement actions, and testified in federal court as a government witness in support of one of those cases.

​Dan's experience extends to working on IRS Whistleblower Program cases, where he evaluated claims and analyzed complex financial records submitted by third parties. This work required a keen eye for uncovering inconsistencies and identifying potential fraud—skills that are particularly valuable in situations involving complex or misrepresented financial data. In select matters, Dan collaborated with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division on joint investigations, contributing financial analysis to support criminal enforcement efforts.

In addition to his technical expertise, Dan was an on-the-job instructor, where he trained and mentored new agents. This role honed his ability to present complex financial information in a clear, understandable manner—a skill he continues to utilize when advising clients, especially in high-stakes or litigation-related matters.

Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola University Chicago, an MBA in Financial Fraud Management from Saint Xavier University, and leads the firm’s forensic accounting and litigation support services. His combination of government investigative experience, advanced education, and client-focused insight allows him to deliver expert guidance with precision, discretion, and clarity.

In his free time, Dan enjoys spending time with his family, cheering on the Chicago White Sox, and playing golf—even though he’s still working on his swing.
